What a great weekend!

Mr. Man and I made a great escape to a Car Show in Wichita Falls, then booked it to OKC to meet Mom and Brother and SisM and TODDLER!   It was a twist on Mother’s Day this year, what with it being the first one without Granny.  Though we did get a cosmic message or two from her.  First, while at Bricktown (downtown OKC) we were buying tickets for the water taxi at the Red Dirt Emporium, we came across some of Aunt Chick’s cookie cutters, the same kind Granny used for over 60 years to make some of her special holiday cookies.  And we learned that store is the only retailer in OKC to carry them.  Hmmm?  And as we walked away from the water taxi dock after our ride, a tall, perfect daisy greeted us as we approached the flowerbed near the steps leading to the street. Daisies were her favorite flower.

All in all, a great, if whirlwind, weekend.  Brother and SisM seem to be doing well.  And Toddler is fabulous, as always.  She called (via Grandma) while were were still in Wichita Falls and asked if we were going to be at her house in 5 minutes.  Precious.  And while we were saying good-bye, explaining we had to drive back to Amarillo, she asked if she could go with us.  AWWW! We would have, in a split second, if we’d been able to arrange our work and class schedules ahead of time!    Toddler is getting to the age where she is getting a sense of time, figuring that all out, and about living in different cities.  That she looks forward to seeing us is neat.  As usual, we were all charmed by her antics.

Bricktown is really neat.  It’s the entertainment district of OKC, where there are clubs, restaurants, a baseball stadium and a man-made waterway with mosaics, shops and the like  on its banks, similar to the Riverwalk in San Antonio.  We ate at Earl’s Rib Palace,  a place with DELICIOUS barbeque, fit for a king.  No, really.  Earl, a native of Eastern Oklahoma, used to be Elvis’s chef, and now, as his bio says, Earl’s recipies also live on as a part of history, even though he passed about a year after the King of Rock and Roll. YUM!

OKC is also the headquarters for the Sonic corporation. See about how they got their start in Oklahoma here.  It’s pretty interesting.  Still,  I didn’t get my Sonic Diet Coke fix this weekend until LATE Sunday afternoon. grumble grumble…

We stayed later than we should have Sunday, not leaving until 10:30, and gertting home until nearly 3:00 a.m. YAWN. Luckily, I was off work today, and I was totally lazy.  TOTALLY.

Like I have time for that?

The guilt-ish-ness sets in…..

  • Step away from the guilt! As busy as you’ve been lately, you deserve to relax and ENJOY it.

Sounds like a wonderful weekend, and I love the messages from Granny. I feel that way whenever I see Canada geese fly overhead. They were some of my Grandpa’s favorite waterfowl. Just the other day, I saw a couple of quail (his all-time favorite birds). I’ve not seen them around here for years!

  • The messages are really touching. Sounds like you had a great weekend. And don’t feel guilty - we all need some time out once in a while.

  • Sounds like your gran was there with you this weekend :-) And as for guilt, enough of that! LIVE!!!

  • You guys ROCK! Thanks for stopping by!

  • Thanks so much for the kind words! It was a pleasure to talk to you, and I’m glad that Aunt Chick and I were able to help you connect with your grandmother. Only one correction: to date we’re the only retailer in the ENTIRE STATE of Oklahoma to feature Aunt Chick’s cutters, a point of pride for me! Not for long, I’m sure. :)

I’m glad you enjoyed your visit so much!

  • Thanks, Chad, I thought it was the state, but wasn’t sure, but knew I could be a LITTLE right when I said OKC! :) We were really tickled to run across them. I know we’ll visit your store again when we come to OKC. Your story was really interesting, too!
